COD orders are one of the big causalities of the recent demonetisation drive of the government, as reported earlier, COD is the preferred mode of payment for Indians while shopping online. As reported earlier the returns of the COD orders have climbed up to 50% for major e-commerce players. As customers who chose COD option is asking the delivery boys to accept the old currency notes or take back the orders. The vendors who sell their products in the marketplace are suffering as major ecom players pass this courier charges back to the vendors. This is hitting vendors hardly as they are already suffering due to drop in sales by 70% as few major players has stopped accepting he COD orders for a while when the demonetisation started. But now the companies again started to accept the COD orders again.
When we checked COD option in Flipkart, a message is flashed saying "Due to the recent Govt. of India order, Rs. 500 & Rs. 1000 notes will not be accepted. Please keep alternate currency denominations ready or use other payment modes" .
The vendors lobbying the government to allow them to accept the old currency note Rs.500 / 1000, with some security measures like accepting the identity proof of the buyer. If this happens, this will be a win win situation also this could be a wind fall for e-commerce companies as many people wants to clear off their old notes by purchasing some items, who is not bothered to stand in the queue to exchange the same.
